چکیده

For studies of galaxy formation and evolution, one the major benefits James Webb Space Telescope is that space-based IFUs like those on its NIRSpec MIRI instruments will enable spatially resolved spectroscopy distant galaxies, including at scale individual star-forming regions in galaxies have been gravitationally lensed. In meantime, there only a very small subset lensed sources where work this possible even with Hubble Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 infrared channel grisms. We examine two these sources, SDSS J1723+3411 J2340+2947, using HST WFC3/IR grism data supporting spatially-unresolved from several ground-based to explore size spatial variations observed strong emission line ratios O32, R23, which are sensitive ionization parameter metallicity, Balmer decrement as an indicator reddening. find significant variation reddening reddening-corrected O32 R23 values correspond spreads few tenths dex metallicity. also clear evidence negative radial gradient star J2340+2947 tentative J1723+3411, though quite asymmetric. Finally, we can vary enough make spatially-resolved corrections necessary order characterize gradients physical conditions inferred them, necessitating use for future larger, more statistically robust samples.

Spt 0538−50: Physical Conditions in the Ism of a Strongly Lensed Dusty Star-forming Galaxy at Z=2.8

We present observations of SPT-S J053816−5030.8, a gravitationally-lensed dusty star forming galaxy (DSFG) at z = 2.7817, first discovered at millimeter wavelengths by the South Pole Telescope. SPT 0538−50 is typical of the brightest sources found by wide-field millimeter-wavelength surveys, being lensed by an intervening galaxy at moderate redshift (in this instance, at z = 0.441). We present ...

Host Galaxies of Lensed Luminous Quasars at Z ∼ 2

We present H-band observations of gravitationally lensed QSO host galaxies obtained with NICMOS on HST as part of the CfA-Arizona-Gravitational-Lens-Survey (CASTLES). The detections are greatly facilitated by the lensing magnification in these systems; we find that most hosts of radio-quiet QSOs (RQQ) at z ∼ 2 are of modest luminosity (L < L *). They are 2-5 times fainter than the hosts of radi...

Metallicities and Physical Conditions in Star-forming Galaxies at Z∼1.0-1.5

We present a study of the mass-metallicity (M-Z) relation and H II region physical conditions in a sample of 20 star-forming galaxies at 1.0 < z < 1.5 drawn from the DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey. We find a correlation between stellar mass and gas-phase oxygen abundance in the sample, and compare it with the one observed among UV-selected z ∼ 2 star-forming galaxies and local objects from the Sl...

Physical conditions of the interstellar medium of high-redshift, strongly lensed submillimetre galaxies from the Herschel-ATLAS

We present Herschel-Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) and radio follow-up observations of two Herschel-Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey (H-ATLAS)-detected strongly lensed distant galaxies. In one of the targeted galaxies H-ATLAS J090311.6+003906 (SDP.81), we detect [O III] 88 μm and [C II] 158 μm lines at a signal-to-noise ratio of ∼...

Stellar populations and Ly α emission in two lensed z & 6 galaxies

We present an analysis of two strongly lensed galaxies at z = 6.56 and z ∼ 7 for which multi-band photometric and spectroscopic observations are available. For one source the data include recent HST and Spitzer observations. Using an SED fitting technique considering a number of parameters (various libraries of empirical and theoretical template spectra, variable extinction and extinction laws)...
